Privacy policy

In short: this website sets no cookies and creates no user profiles. For basic reach statistics it runs a self-hosted Matomo — cookieless, with a shortened IP address and no sharing with third parties; you can opt out below. Fonts, images and scripts are served from our own server.

Controller

Niels Hegmans, Johannes-Dech-Str. 49, 50737 Köln, Germany — contact details in the imprint.

Hosting & server log files

When pages are requested, our hosting provider (Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany) processes technically necessary data: IP address, date and time, requested file, referrer, browser identifier. This data is required to deliver the site and keep it secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and is deleted automatically after a short period. It is not merged with any other data.

No cookies — and a cookieless reach measurement

This website uses no cookies. Since 20 August 2026 it runs Matomo on our own server — no third party is involved, nothing is transferred outside the EU. Measurement is cookieless, your IP address is shortened before storage, a browser “Do Not Track” signal is respected, and a visit only counts after five seconds. No cross-site profile is created. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Opt out

You can object at any time. The objection is kept in your browser’s local storage (key ik_notrack, not a cookie) and applies to this site; as long as it is there, the analytics script is not loaded on this device at all:

The rest: No data is transferred to third parties; fonts and all media are loaded from our own server.

Local storage

For convenience features the site stores data exclusively in your browser (localStorage; it never leaves your device): your chosen language, your chosen colour scheme (light/dark), your learning progress (flashcards, learning path, quiz, dilemmas), your own verdicts and the state of the interactive tools, the stars collected on the star map, the number of your thinking days, notes you have found, the tool you used last, and projector mode and reading speed. All keys begin with ik-. A “link to exactly this state” carries a tool’s state in the part of the address after the “#”; that part is not sent to the server. You can delete this data at any time via your browser settings.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. As this website stores no personal data beyond the server logs described above, simply contact the address given in the imprint with any questions.
